I really don't think that this film wants to change that old woman's mind. Notice that the only person on the streetcar who explicitly agrees with her is another old man. The adults on the streetcar ignore the situation, but know that it is wrong. The freaks (immigrants, punks, outcasts) realize that it is wrong and speak up but no one listens to them (the boy who yells at the old woman isn't even subtitled) and the only person who recognizes the situation is wrong and looks directly at it is a small child. The whole point here seems to be "let the past die and make sure that the future knows what's right". The old woman getting her comeuppance isn't the point at all; it's just a cherry on top! 7 years 10 months ago -
