I agree with what some commenters have said that this is not a masterpiece, but the film containes several flashes of brilliance throughout. There are two scenes in particular spoiler which showcase the height of characterization in film. This film also has one of the greatest closing lines of all time, in my opinion.

This movie is great, a little bit creepy at the beginning but really great. I have watched this movie before and I deeply regret to fell asleep while watching it, well that was before, but today, hell men, I didn't expect that this movie is gonna be wonderful. The actors, setting, and even the music is a big winner for me. I also have to say that Kevin Spacey, a wonderful actor as always...

Utterly wonderful. Absorbing plot throughout, a masterful ending and Kevin Spacey is just breath-taking. I'm blown away.

I don't understand how people below me on this list could say this movie is anything but spectacular. A fresh light in a wildly cliched genre. This movie is any moviegoer's wet dream.

Hold on -- did someone really assert that the cheap, dated, clichéd, underdeveloped, sequel-hungry Copycat was better than Se7en?

I guess there really is something for everyone and everyone for something.

Ernest Hemingway once wrote, "The world is a fine place and worth fighting for." I agree with the second part.

This movie's sin is Pride. It's not nearly as deep or original as it pretends to be.

The two last sins make the plot so interesting... I liked it, it's a must see, great acting by Brad Pitt.

Seven starts weakly with a clichéd pairing of idealistic young cop (Brad Pitt) and weathered detective (Morgan Freeman). A string of themed murders suggests (but fails to deliver) a script which promises commentary on the natures of sin and innocence. What is perhaps most inexcusable, however, is the film's manipulative but nonsensical structure. Only because the twist ending demands that he know it -- and not because it's consistent with either character -- Paltrow's character reveals an important and intimate detail to Freeman, a total stranger. Sadly, this film eclipsed Copycat -- a similarly-themed but better executed film -- at the box office in 1995.
