Peter Bogdanovich directing a movie about a character trying to capture the magic of classic Hollywood films is so perfect that the whole thing can easily be read as an allegory for the current state of his career. Thankfully however this film also works as a straight up comedy, due to Poots' considerable charms, a script that places its characters in deliberately contrived situations just to let the sparks fly, plenty of references for film buffs to enjoy, and a hilarious cameo from Tarantino.
It's far, far from Bogdanovich in his glory days, and is perhaps a little too indebted to Woody Allen, but She's Funny That Way is still a delightful and light hearted tale designed specifically for those who miss the days of Bogey and Hepburn. 8 years 10 months ago -
