Good, but suffers the problem of a lot of novel adaptations in that it rushes through a summary of the novel rather than telling its own story. Parts of the film are unnecessarily simplified from the novel, while others are changed and become confusing.

It does have one fantastic scene, where Jonathan Pryce is in the library, which is worth watching the film for alone. Notably it's a scene which is taken almost word for word from the novel: "You are the autumn people. Where do you come from? The dust. Where do you go to? The grave..."

Surprisingly dark and creepy for a kid's flick, but very well done.

Read the novel instead - the film is but a pale shadow of that most haunting work.
