What a weird and fascinating movie. I was expecting a so-bad-it's-good direct to TV Sarah Jessica Parker vehicle, but Spinning into Butter isn't terrible per se (maybe a bit boring). However this movie does barely anything right. I want to say that the weird racial story beats undermine the theme or message of the movie, but I have a hard time saying what that message is.

The scene where SJP describes why she is racist is oddly entrancing and was one of the few moments where this flick had my full attention. But the scene sort of transitions into this white woman and a black man making a list of everything they think bad about the two races? It turns out pretty bizarre and almost too meta or trying-to-be-edgy for what feels like a TV movie in and out.

That damn ending though and Beau Bridges's passionate speech are so over-dramatized it's wild. It seems like Spinning into Butter tries to take the "white savior" stereotype and turn it on its head, but instead creates something even more toxic. And that misstep of trying to subvert and then creating something even worse, kind of describes everything this movie tries to do.
