I really loved this movie. Didn't think that Han Solo, Chewie and Leia slowed down the movie. Didn't think that Kylo Ren's family dinamics were forced at all, 'cause I got involved and even a bit emotional —and I thought he was amazing as a villain (and a character) —. I'm okay with the basic plot being A New Hope in some aspects, because it deserved it... see: this movie was so well made and had so much energy and great characters and great dialogue and everything that redoing some stuff from the original seems acceptable and even a good idea. If this movie was bad I'd be angry as Hell with it, but it isn't, so is fine.
For me, of course, different people, different reactions.

I really enjoyed it from start to finish. It certainly lived up to the hype and I got really emotional during the beginning crawl.
I loved all the new characters and seeing the old characters slowly appear. The action, shot choices and humour were all spot on.
The plot was very similar to the original trilogy, BUT, I think they needed this to set up their new trilogy, remembering that this will be a LOT of the general public's first Star Wars film.
The only things I had a problem with were another death star, orange-lady-yoda-2.0, Kylo Ren taking off his mask (they could have created a real mysticism) and spoiler
I agree with EMPIRE magazine's 4 out of 5 stars. The Force Awakens is setting up for their stronger part-two.

I personally didn't love it as much as everyone else and thought that it was just an ok movie, but I do highly respect those who did loved it.

It's not allways fun to have an unpopular opinion, since alot of people will either call you an asshole or an idiot for not liking the same thing as they do hehe. I do think however that it's better than the prequals, but not as good as the original trilogy, since(imo) It lacked the magic and the charm of those films. I am sorry, but thats how I felt.

This is the film I was really hoping for as a fan. I loved it from the opening till the end: I will watch it again really soon. The Force Awakens is a movie to enjoy over and over again for all generations of fans.

Great protagonists, horrible main villain. Kylo Ren is a whiny hormonal teenager (he looks and acts the part). I guess it's prequels and Anakin all over again on that front.

Essentially of remake of A New Hope with some Empire and Jedi thrown in, but highly enjoyable. Now that the "fan service" movie is out of the way, I am excited to see where the next two films go with the story.

I've already seen this two times and seriously it's just amazing... The characters are great, b2-8 is just adorable, heck even Kylo Ren is inspirational... Many scenes made me cry... I want to say so much but I can't without spoilers

Three people who never seen any star wars movie watched this with me and all of them loved it and will watch all the previous movies.

I tried to go into the movie without any expectations. I almost did but I ended up pretty excited as it finally started. From the moment of the three bloody stripes on Finn's helmet, I liked the movie and it didn't let me down. I admit that you might have some difficulties do get the whole story that happened in these thirty years inbetween. I bet it will be explained in future movies, though.
I can't really understand all of you who have a problem with the fan service.... I mean what if Abrams would have done his own original movie, without any appearance of the old cast etc. ??? I think most of the fanservice or "unoriginal" complainers would have rebelled and shouted "that's no real star wars!" "Where's Han, Where is Leia ??" "What is the relation to the other movies??" and so on.... you get the idea ;)
Personally I really enjoyed the film, I liked Kylo Ren (he is not the true evil guy... geez... he is becoming it maybe) because of his imperfectness and I loved the lots of citations and links to the original trilogie. I am born 1992 but I can imagine now how the "a new hope" audiences felt after the first star wars movie. Thank you, J.J.

One hour after the midnight screening my thoughts are thus:
"British Anna Kendrick is hot."
"The exteriors are fucking amazing."
"spoiler was completely telegraphed but the editing of the emotional responses was effective."
"What's the Republic?"
"I really like the two leads but Finn really should've had more of an emotional reaction to shooting his former comrades. He hesitated with the complete strangers in the beginning."
"What a waste of Max von Sydow?"
"Finally Max von Sydow is not introduced as a good guy in the beginning only to be revealed to be with the baddies all along."
"The First Order are really channeling their distant future cousins, the Third Reich, for fashion tips."
"Yep, I really don't like Domhnall Gleeson as an actor. Adam Driver even less."
"I really wish Kylo Ren kept his helmet on."
"The Star Wars movies do a great job of establishing their villains but make them too easy to take down. Case in point: the gorgeous snow forest light saber duel between an established bad ass, a cowardly traitor and an untrained Force user."
"John Williams is probably the only composer who be self-referential and still get away with it while composing a great score."
"This is JJ Abrams' best movie. His inclusion for a literal mystery box gets a pass for actually servicing the story in a significant way."
"This was a serious case of over-acting. I'm not entirely sure why, the human actors are good, but I did not believe that they were actually the characters they portrayed. You can tell that these are well-taught actors that are calculating their reactions. Harrison Ford is the only one who gets a pass because he acted according to the image he has built over the years as the surly grizzled veteran."
"There is no consistency in the make-up of the humans."
"As a non-Star Wars fan, I was entertained and actually look forward to the Rian Johnson directed sequel, but have little interest in the Colin Trevorrow episode."
"There are still so many other movies I'd rather watch or re-watch than paying to see this again."

This movie completely redeems the franchise. Whatever damage the prequels did has been washed away a film that understands why Star Wars is so special to so many people.

Essentially, it's Fan Service: The Movie.

For the record, though, I really enjoyed it.
