Surprisingly fun! While this is obviously a straight copy of 1974's "The Towering Inferno," I have to say that "The Tower" is half-again more fun than the original upon which it is based! You have all the standard disaster moments, and you should be able to call the expected set-piece moments far in advance, but it is all executed with such flair that you can forget about how clichéd the whole thing is and just enjoy the film. You'll be right there with the survivors, cheering them on as they make one narrow escape after another! The direction, for this type of film, is handled superbly, and I often found myself grinning at how well the shots and camera pans were put together. Great effects, great music, mob panic scenes, an adorable young child, a pregnant woman, a cautious romance, the dubious rich snobs, the heroic firefighters; this film has it all!
Is it better than "The Towering Inferno?" Probably not. Would I watch it again? Absolutely!! "The Tower" is a perfect popcorn flick! Very enjoyable! 10 years 9 months ago
