I saved the worst film till last to complete the IMDB Top 250.

Utter shite.

So many pointless musical numbers dragging out a 2 hour film into a near 3 hour one.

Let's be honest, if this was made in the US or the UK, people would say it's cheap sentiment and cheese. It's a nice little flick but it's not a masterpiece by any definition of the word.

You can start this movie, then take your child to a doctor, get him in a special program. He'll be reading and writing normal and this film will still be playing.

Best part was the ending, meaning the movie was finally over.

I loathe the majority of the stupid, foolish, adult characters in this film, who can't even be bothered to run their problem child by a doctor before berating and shaming him - and why is it that, as per stereotype, only a magical hero teacher can do the job of opening their eyes? The kid should have gone all 'Udaan' on his opponents and socked them in the mouth. The second half is somewhat better (the final cross-generational contest is somewhat enjoyable) but still has a smell of 'Simple Jack' about it, complete with 'angelic' soundtrack at one point, in fact few of the songs in the soundtrack work all that well. The film's sickly sweet message might carry better with Indian audiences, but for those less inclined to believe that every child is sacred, this will probably come off more as saccarine and desperately overlong.

Another unbearable Bollywood pic where the director casts himself as the too-good-to-be-true hero (this time the 'unconventional teacher who makes a difference to difficult student' schtick). Fast-forward through the songs and you can shave off 20 minutes of maudlin mush.

Sure, it's a very beautiful story. That, however, does not make this a brilliant film. It simply isn't. Ugh.

Well, it's Bollywood and therefore probably takes some getting used to. Some scenes are definately over the top or even tedious... but some other scenes just show in a great way how children, especially those with learning disabilities or special abilities and interests, are often pressured and almost destroyed by their families or the school system. The lyrics and melody of the title song are also really touching.

Of course, to our refined, post-modern tastes, this movie is preachy, sappy and predictable. But I happen to be a sucker for Hindi movies and I try not to judge them by Western standards. I've come to expect and even love the musical numbers and the ludicrously long running times.

Having said this, I think Taare Zameen Par is almost perfect in its execution, with a moving story, great pacing and fine acting by child and adult actors alike. It may not be the best film you'll ever watch, but it certainly is a solid Indian flick. 8/10

I had low expectations for this film but I was surprised by it. It's not the best film ever, but it is good.

About 165 minutes too long. The poster boy for the anti-IMDb argument.

Interesting story of dyslexic young Ronaldinho with his school struggles and how he was a talented painter first, years before he rose to stardom and became a god of football.
Realistic portrayal of child/parents relations where parents actually yell at their kids and kids actually behave like human beings unlike classialc Hollywood parent/child story where they usually bond at the end of their intergalactic adventure or after saving the world. All the singing put aside, I actually liked the movie.

You probably already knew about this disorder, but if you didn't I just saved you three sappy hours of pointlessness.
