Kindergarten Terminator. A step backwards compared to Terminator 1, and where I suspect James Cameron's bad case of Avatarosis started to set in.

One of those rare movies that surpasses its prequel (Aliens and The Dark Knight being the others)

The structure was extremely similar to the first one, but it was still really good. Definitely going to watch all of these movies.

A great ride with cool effects and stunts. The time travel stuff remains complex enough to keep your interest and Linda Hamilton really comes into her own here.

I remember watching and loving this movie as a kid even though it was always on the verge of giving me nightmares. Watching people get incinerated then vaporized in an atomic blast is honestly not something a 6 year old should be thinking about, anyway. One of the great feelings that the Terminator movies always gave me was a sense of robots essentially fighting it out in a time that no one could stop them or even understand them, and this movie nails that feeling. The copious amount of blue lighting gives the film an otherworldly feel and serves to jack up the impending darkness of a world on the brink of losing its young savior of John Connor (played very well here by Edward Furlong.) Linda Hamilton shines brightly, and plays an emotionally turbulent yet driven character that would become a baseline for strong women in cinema. Arnie is great, and Patrick as the T-1000 is the perfect blend of both horror and danger that makes your skin crawl. For me it is just as good if not better than the original despite being a slight change in overall tone.

I adore the lighting in this film, a ghostly blue that seems to penetrate nearly all the scenes. It's mostly effective in the last climatic scene between our protagonists and antagonist, but it's presence adds a touch of inhumanity that's just perfect for the subject matter. My only complaint would be the "blink and you'll miss it" exposition as I'm not a huge fan of the Terminator mythos, but intense action scenes and Hamilton's amazing performance more than make for it.
