Too subdued for its own good--and this coming from a film goer who prefers subtle, natural, contemplative dramas.
Also, the filmmaker did not make it possible for the audience to form enough of an emotional connection to Geena Davis' character for us to feel even remotely happy for her/him in the end.
A perfect film. William Hurt is magnificent as a man so emotionally shut down after personal tragedy, that only someone completely alien to his former self can save him.
Emotionally deep and enchanting characters. A beautiful film.
