Bette Davis is insanely good in this, playing the ceaselessly cruel widow who delights in the abuse and degradation of her grown children. It's an unheralded gem and between this, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and The Nanny, Davis has given three of my favourite antagonist performances.
