AMAZING MOVIE ! I cannot believe it took me that long to watch it ! Perfect !! cried, laughed and everything, love it, love it, love it !!!! Great actors ! Even the dog !!! <3
I really enjoyed this movie. Sure, the plot is not the big deal and it is predictable, but that doesn't mean that this movie isn't good. What is not point of discussion here is the Jean Dujardin's performance. He did a great job and definitely deserved the Oscar.
I liked this. Never watched silent film before but I'm not sure this qualifies as one ... but either way, it doesn't matter what genre this is. It's a special little thing. Liked it a lot. Likable actors.
Silent films are certainly their own genre. I feel there is enough which separates silents films from other films to justify this - there are plenty of tropes and techniques almost exclusive to silent film storytelling and film making.
I quite like Charlie Chaplin films but I hated this. I was bored after 10 minutes. I found it a little pretentious and made simply to garner the praise of the academy.
Very overrated 5/10
It's well done but the script is silly, predictable and totally false cuz a lot of great silents still shooting after 1927. I have seen 12 silent films and I liked them more than The Artist
Finally got around to watching this and I must say that it was not at all as good as I'd hoped. I loved the play with sound both in the dream sequence and in the final scene, it was absolutely brilliant. Other than that it wasn't really better than the old original silent films, more like a less interesting copy tbh, and the plot wasn't very good either. I understand it's supposed to be a homage to the old movies but simply mimicking them doesn't make it a good film. It just makes it seem uninspired and kind of lazy. Luckily both Dujardin and Bejo are lovely though, which made it fun to watch. :)
Is it better than the best silent movies have to offer? No, certainly not. But we only tend to remember the very best of something nearly 100 years old. They churned the things out in those days, and I'd venture to say The Artist is better than most of them. As an homage/tribute to the era, it hits many of the right buttons.
I totally agree with carolcoronado. Maybe it's well done and well shot and everything but the script is predictable and the old silent movies were quite (and when I say quite I mean VERY MUCH) better than this.

Boring gimmick film. 2011 as a whole was a lousy year for movies made evident by this one.Anna Choukaer

So far, this is the worst Academy Award-winning film that I've ever seen. The plot is predictable and boring and the script is very silly.JackieGigantic
