I had considerable expectations about this one... it's an ok movie but clearly overrated...

A friend recommended this to me because she thought it was funny, I only laughed a few times. The story was kinda interesting but it ended abruptly. I probably would not recommend this movie.

The movie is decent, but I personally don't understand the rave status it has received event in the cult classic context.

Overrated in my opinion. This movie was just okay. The humor wasn't laugh out loud funny and there wasn't much value to the film.

@frankqb I completely agree with you. I can't understand all the big buzz around this.

I also think the same thing about No Country For Old Men. As we say here in Brasil, it's a movie "without feet neither head" meaning "senseless"

Perhaps something in my upbringing makes this movie nothing more than an annoying blip on my film-radar, incessantly beeping to be recognized while nonetheless providing nothing of value but the knowledge of its own fleeting existence. Bridges and Goodman are amusing, but the glorification of this stoner's life (and let's face it, the Dude is set up to be nonetheless the hero of this story despite his flagrant crapulence) makes the film an ode to a style of life that escapes my understanding. The Cohens do not make bad films, they just sometimes make films without value. Art for art's sake, yes, but The Dude for The Dude's sake is a bit much for me to accept. Take a pass on this overrated piece of stoner-friendly cinema.

I can't believe this film is on a whoppin' 26 official lists. Not a bad movie, but way overhyped and overrated. Steve Buscemi in his most pointless role I've seen, the part could had been played by just about anyone, and every time John Goodman's character opened his mouth I just felt like punching him in the face. What a waste of so much talent here. Jeff Bridges was pretty great, though.

The jokes must've been funny in 1998, but they did absolutely nothing for me watching this now. The plot was predictable, and the musical bits just made me cringe, glad I was at least able to fast forward through those parts.

The Cohen Bros. do it again! A Chandleresque runaround starring a total hippie slacker that's just full of quirkiness and humor.

I dont know what to think about it. just memoral surreal scenes that i liked and few funny moments. its like power of the film is in the end in somere reflextions of ourselfs. the political side of the film i didnt get it at all but i think is kind of analogy
