I didn't think I would like this series, hence that I put off watching them until now, but they're surprisingly good. Matt Damon is good in it.

Terrific spy thriller, sets up the series. Loved it in the cinema 16 years ago and after seeing it at least 16 times over.....still do. Great action, suspense, car chases, intrigue......just a lot of fun.

Though it's certainly a massive trendsetter in action, I'm not sure that's a positive. The camerawork didn't feel obtuse to me, but the editing did. When you're annoyed by the editing, or even notice it, it's a big problem. Thankfully, though, the film is more about the intrigue than the action, which I liked (though it seems others didn't). I enjoyed the story, though I found the ending a tad unsatisfying and sudden. I wanted it to have a darker one. As is, to me, it feels forced and inconsistent with the rest of the film. Still, most of everything before that kept me involved, and Chris Cooper and Matt Damon were very good, as always.

A strong start to this series featuring the unlikely action hero Matt Damon in a rich, complex and paranoid spy thriller that keeps you guessing. It does steal some beats from Ronin though, and doesn't better them.
