I think most people don't like the movie because they were expecting a slapstick comedy and got a drama with some funny comedy mixed in.

I have one major question after watching this, what am I supposed to take from this? What does either character learn other than they are better off without each other?

They don't find anyone new, they don't get back together, they don't change, they just go their separate ways and find they are much happier. Why does it take them the whole movie to figure that out?

I don't even understand what or who I was meant to be rooting for, I didn't like either of the main characters and I didn't want to see either of them with one another or anyone else. All I really wanted was for them to change but that never really happens. There is a vague hint near that Gary has changed, but we never really see it.

The fights they have feel more realistic, but also make wonder how they've remained together for this long.

There is also a somewhat interesting idea about doing things for your partner simply because they asked, compared to just wanting to help them. But other than that this film offers up nothing.
