Edward G. Robinson is just fantastic in no matter what he does. Even at 71, he still rocks a mean movie.

It may seem like a derivative of the superior "The Hustler", but is a good movie on its own right. It avoids glamorizing the McQueen character by portraying him as too reckless and victory-hungry against the smooth and professional Robinson with both actors giving excellent performances. Certainly one of the best films on poker.

Gambling films somehow interest me and Steve McQueen is such a charismatic actor, so this poker movie was something of a sure shot. It works well, has great characters, a lot of suspense, and no Hollywood ending.

Pretty mediocre really. If you're interested in poker, watch it, but otherwise I'd skip it. The director didn't even really show the cards being played (except for the very last hand). Note that they play 5-card stud, not the now prevalent Texas Hold'em. It was fun to watch Steve McQueen though.
