I thought this was the remake of The Red Circle?! Very good thriller with decent plot devices. Tough fragile lead role who just about gets it pulled off... Strongly gets the impression it was indeed based on a book
I was expecting John Boyega to have a bigger role but unfortunately I was wrong. The movie was pretty alright but as the user "John Milton" also mentioned: "Black mirror" is a lot better. Still fun and not even 2 hours which makes for aa non-boring watch.
An extremely relevant movie about the dangers of conglomeration.
I really liked how they portrayed the possible threats to individuality, personal "flaws", being an outlier and non-compliance. There was a fine balance between evil masterminds and heart-warming confidence in the business leaders (great casting in that regard).
I didn't mind for Hermoiny's plotline though. Although she and Ty did serve as blunt examples and created mystery and hints toward suspense, I prefferred the exploration of a company-owned totalitatian regime, made possible by millions of tiny voluntary data contributions of the general public.
ooook... they got story, good cast, good production.. many good things actually but no climax as I suppose..?
all the movie was showing what the company is about, how it works and how the protagonist worked her way up in that company (and she didn't do much tbh).. that's it!
what really matters that you know from the beginning about the problem, and how it should be solved in some kind of way, but you keep waiting for the movie to do its job, and you'll be disappointed because it'll start at the last 20 minutes and will end badly. (runtime: 1h 50min)
all I say that the protagonist character wasn't made by her own decisions and we didn't see her worrying or thinking about such a problem, and even if she did it was at the last 20 mins! and how they made the company (antagonist) so powerful that you'll wonder how they gonna be defeated, but all that fell apart, in other words, there was no struggle at all.
and about the genres, sci-fi? I mean aren't we having a similar technology? or we could have it the very next years? wasn't so sci-fi to me but you could consider it with that ending.. thriller? nope, at all.
as I said they had everything to make a great movie.. unfulfilled potential?
I don't know, maybe I hoped this was a thriller or mystery, but it was drama all along and it was trying to deliver an important message.
Tell me if I was wrong.
The biggest issue I had with this film was that it wanted me to cheer for her when she was doing things I don't agree with and then disappointing me when there was opportunity to for her make things right.
The main character development portrays her as an inoccent well meaning person, but in the end she sells out everyone, literally everyone. Total BS because there is zero impetus for her to do this when even her parents have been well taken care of. There is no basis for her spite.

I don't get what people see in Emma Watson as an actor. I cannot stomach her.DaniloFreiles
Molto attuale e premonitore di un prossimo futuro. Futuro di cui probabilmente farò parte. Fortuna che non avrò figli.great

Some parts subtle, some parts blunt.

Wow. A feat I thought impossible, but it's actually worse than the Mummy.Ivan0716
Wow, I like Emma Watson but she is terrible at giving speeches, never seen anyone more awkward and unnatural.audiopile

This was pretty terrible, I suggest watching Black Mirror instead. Really.
