This surprised me. It was marketed in a rather unfortunate way and looked rather generic. I should've known better considering it comes from one of the directors of Lilo and Stich and How to Train Your Dragon. Really solid film, very funny and even incredibly heartfelt. I highly recommend!
Wonderful creature design and Nicolas Cage's excellent voice acting set this apart from your typical children's animated movie, but it never reaches the heights of the director's other feature films, How To Train Your Dragon and Lilo And Stitch, due mostly to a very, very scrappy last half hour, as well as some overly forced character development and a lack of true laugh-out-loud moments.
One or two scenes in the beginning were a bit annoying, so I was not sure if I was gonna like it... but the rest of the movie was really good. Funny, sweet, colorful... so many sweet animals and landscapes... great fun. Sweet story, too. Nicolas Cage's voice was great ;)
It's alright, except for overly slopy scenes (and there were a lot of them). But the action was fun, so was the design of the creatures and characters. The scenery was gorgeous to look at too. But it's very much just a cinema experience, I doubt I would ever watch it on a smaller screen.
I enjoyed the film but this Owl City guy that sings the song over the end credits sounds like pretty much everything I hate. I'm convinced the guy has no testicles.
The designs might have been the worst part about this movie. I know they're cavemen and all but they could have gave them more personality. A square head with surprised face or a angry face is a simple emotion, not personality. Make them stand out in the world, make each unique. Instead we got gross, pale pink, square headed, giant eyed awkward looking characters that were lumbering in a world that would have pleased a finger painting kindergarten class or a circus clown. Ugly stuff.

Interesting to see a mainstream animated comedy, with by-the-numbers structure, have such a strong scientific and spiritual backbone.eiriknielsen
