I liked the music. Pretty good acting. Predictable story. The best thing about this movie, to me, was Woody Harrelson, and he wasn't in it enough.IAimToMisbehave
It's fun. I found the main character Nadine annoying, but in a way that was almost charmingly reminiscent of what it was like to be a kid and so self-absorbed and dramatic. I would've loved more of her relationships with Woody Harrelson (who was hilarious) and her brother and best friend, though._andrea_
Predictable, yet refreshing, all at the same time. Killer soundtrack too.filmyjo
Fresh coming-of-age drama with such brilliant acting from Hailee Steinfield. Woody Harrelson played his part very well! Nice feel-good entertainer.. One of the best films of 2016 yet.missdaisy14
Yeah... the story's a total cliche but I really, really like it. 8.5/10NourNasreldin
Came in expecting a sappy high school drama but I'm so glad that's entirely untrue. I love how real this is, it took me back to the time I was 17 and feeling like the most annoying kid in the world. This just felt so relatable and raw.TheStonyField
I heard this was a good movie for a long time, so I tried streaming it a year or two ago, and accidentally watched the other Edge of Seventeen instead, the gay coming of age movie from the 90s. Finally got around to watching this one too. It was fine. I think the gay one is better.DaniloFreiles
Woody Harrelson great.yukononun
I actually felt really bad for Nadine. Maybe it's because I was alone growing up, but I really felt for her.Not only that, but to act all casual and then drop Nadine like a sack of rocks at the slightest chance? She knew that she was the only friend Nadine had, and she barely even knew her brother...yet still picked him over her best friend since second grade. And still came over to his/Nadine's house to play nooky with him. Brutal.
Not saying that Nadine was perfect, because she definitely had problems (her initial treatment of Erwin is one example)...but looking at her past and her family situation it's pretty easy to see why losing (or even the thought of losing) her only friend/supportive rock would devastate her.
The character development of her brother was great, though. I hated him at first (which I assume was intentional, considering he was initially viewed through Nadine's perspective), but he really grew on me over time. I enjoyed seeing their relationship and Nadine's circle slowly grow.
Krista never grew on me, but maybe it's because I never saw her make absolutely any attempt at repairing their fractured relationship. She seemed perfectly content to me.
As for the film itself? It was pretty good. The music and cinematography were lovely, but there was too much angst with little relief (as noted by others, Woody was not in this long enough) and with quite a few clichés.
I preferred the pacing and feel of the second half over the first; maybe if the whole film was like that then I'd have liked it more.

So... Two minors are drunk... And a sober guy who might not be a minor sleep with one of them... How is his not a story about him going to jail?Payton86
Predictable, but the acting is great that feels almost refreshing comparing to other coming-of-age movies. Really enjoyed it!Siskoid
The Edge of Seventeen is a teen dramady/coming of age story, a well-worn genre, but well scripted and acted, with a strong personal vision to support it (the very end does slide into predictable cliché, perhaps). Like most ugly duckling movies, the main character Nadine isn't ugly at all, but she does think her LIFE is ugly. Ugly and unfair and her personal tragedies have pushed her into self-pity and selfishness, a karmic backlash was inevitable. Even if the ensemble is right out of CW teen soap central casting - everyone's so damn pretty - the film is at least honest with its characters, not letting them off the hook just because they might be the "heroes" of the piece. Those saying Hailee Steinfeld is a star in the making have apparently forgotten they said the same thing when she starred in the Coen Bros.' True Grit, but nevertheless, yes, she's a magnetic screen presence. Your favorite character may well become Woody Harrelson's give/take-no-shit teacher though; he's hilarious and as it turns out, his peculiar attitude is more than just a manifestation of God's uncaring nature towards Nadine.vendetta
all cliche..........but sweet and a nice time.....pretty nice acting ....though !Tiago Costa
