the most gory movie of that time, with the possible exception of dead alive. the card scene is my favourite. the first time i saw this movie, i was nine, and my older cousin decided scare the bejesus out of me by making me watch it. i thought it was nothing special until the card part (i couldent understand the idea of tree rape).
The low budget and cabin setting provide for some great atmosphere. Very scary picture, yet there are some visual trademarks of what Raimi would be doing throughout his career. Some bits of very dark humor appear throughout, and Evil Dead is most promising for Raimi's first outing as a director.
Very overrated. Sure it's pretty creepy, but the plot goes just about no-where and the acting is pretty atrocious. Awesome location and ideas, just badly EXECUTED.
The fingers in the eyes was pure Gore-Junkie gold !!! & when they explode after ash throws the Book of the Dead into the fire. Those skeletal hands explode out of the last two "deadites" ...
THE most disturbing movie I've ever seen, with the possible exception of Cannibal Holocaust. The lo-fi value really got under my skin, even though it makes some laugh. Also incredibly gory in a disgusting way, and has a furious occult tone whilst also being darkly funny. The cards scene is one of my all time favourites. 'YOU HAVE AWAKENED US FROM OUR SLUMBER'.... :D ...great.

Good horror movie for the 80s if you don't take it too seriously. Some impressively disturbing imagery.xyz

This might be the grossest movie I've ever seen. Damn impressive for what they did on such a small budget.Jashezilla
