Nice movie! Some of the features of this world and its people were very nicely shown, cool effects, Nicole Kidman was great... like it!

I can't remember why I disliked this movie so much on first watching... Sure it's a bit rushed (but so is every Harry Potter movie, and everyone seems to like them), and maybe a tad too whimsical compared to the books.

But you know what, after ten years of everything being dull and gritty, I'm GLAD to see a little bit of joy and whimsy on screen for once. Designs are pretty, actors good, characterisation efficient. Honestly, let's give that movie a break.

I've read the book and it's great. The movie adaptation feels hurried and muddled. I've always wondered why Hollywood chooses to turn a book into a film and then not respect the content of it. It's not bad, but not great either. Graphics are pretty cool. And I've read in the comments about the religious groups going against this film ... that's pretty pathetic.

Who, what or why????? I can't explain the plot. Movie looks good but is clearly intended to be part of a sequel or trilogy.

I haven't read the books, but I loved the movie. I love how everything is different and invented - nothing is like in our world. :)

the books are excellent but the movie is well done! a good adaptation! I wished they would do the sequels but as I read several times they will not because of the anti-campaign organized in the US.

Loved the books, not so mad about the movie. But I do wish they'd make the rest into films.

The books are great, but this film was repeatedly compromised during the scripting and editing phase to remove elements perceived to be anti-religious or unpalatable. So we end up with a film where people have unclear motivations, where the nature of the world is unconvincing, where there's little jeopardy and no ending. A bland product that looks good, but, like the people seperated from their daemons, is soulless.

And the religious right still didn't want to see an anti-religion film with all the anti-religion removed, so New Line lost money because they'd foolishly sold all the overseas rights.
