It was strange to watch a dinosaur movie that only had about 5 different dinosaurs in it. Definitely the worst Pixar movie i've ever seen. No new ideas here. Visually great, but the story was quite boring.

A Tale of Two Animations: the scenery was gorgeous. Photorealistic even. Even the non-dinosaur creatures were great. But man, all the dinosaurs looked awful! Super cartoony, not in line with the rest of the look.

This is some of the best animation from Pixar yet. Unfortunately, the story was not up to their usual standards. Story felt more Disney-influenced and less Pixar.

It's visually stunning, but also painfully earnest and dull. My three-year-old was so bored she asked to go home halfway through. I talked her into staying, but it didn't get any better.

The clumsy concussed dinosaur, funny and a dramatic but we see the sidekicks mcguffin 'plot'. Was going to give a 7 but then the story ends 5/10

This movie is weak, because the dinosaur is weak and a lot of his character really bothered me for some reason and the scene (we all the know the scene) just proved that the animators felt the same.

Much, much better than its reputation (and most of the comments here) suggest. The first act is very weak and overfamiliar, true, but once it settles into the journey it develops nicely.

The animated scenery is absolutely stunning. The character animation is aiming for something entirely different, which is an odd choice, but it's a lot more detailed than it first appears.

As everyone else has said, it's a beautiful movie and shows off everything Pixar has learned over the past 20 years and for that I give it tons of credit. I love the idea behind it, a pastoral Apatosaurus's journey home and the characters he runs into on the way. It's a fun story. The problem with it, in my opinion, is the length. It feels like it rushed through all of the interesting parts, like the interactions with the Triceratops character and the T Rex ranchers. If it were given 30 more minutes to flesh out the supporting cast a little bit more it would have been a much stronger film for it, I think. There are also elements of the story that were played out when The Lion King did them, which I wont spoil in case someone came here for reviews before seeing it. Overall it was a fun watch, but when I left the theater I couldn't help but feel a little bit underwhelmed. 7/10

Now this was a pointless movie. It surprised me to find out that Frances McDormand was involved in this. Very weak and unremarkable.

It may be lacking the emotional punch of Pixar's very best, but The Good Dinosaur makes up for this with stunning animation, memorable characters, and a brilliant twist on the cute mute animal sidekick trope. Sure there are some parts that feel like the unfortunate product of the notoriously difficult production of the film, however these are outweighed by a relentless and highly endearing earnestness, to the point where the inevitable triumphant denouement actually feels earned, unlike in many other similar kids movies. Personally I'd place this squarely in the middle of Pixar's filmography, which is a deceptively strong recommendation considering the strength of their body of work.
