The problem with this film is that it impossible NOT to compare it with Wilde (1997) and Stephen Fry's great performance of the same character. Also, Wilde's "lovers" in the first film, Jude Law and Michael Sheen were so much better than their counterparts in the more recent film. OTOH, Emily Watson is fantastic but she gets very little screen time, as the film is not about her. Not unwatchable but nothing to write home about either. 4 years 10 months ago
