legit movie indeed.BadFluffy
It really took a very average movie year for this one to win an Oscar. It was this or Avatar so all in all it's not too bad but it's a very average one with good moments and average acting.Everything stays very cold and distant from the subject. It feels a little like a documentary with no commentary. Could be a good thing with more of a storyline, character development or some kind of evolution to the plot.
Public Enemy
No, it's a 2008 film. It was released in the US in 2009 but it came out in other countries in 2008.naikou
Damn fine movie, glad it got the oscar! Anyone who thinks this is American propaganda is either an idiot, or they somehow missed the part where just about every American in the movie is an asshole. Next you'll be telling me that Schindler's List is Nazi propaganda because Schindler isn't an asshole.mochiusle
The worst movie to win an Oscar...Emmy_84
i hated this movie. Oh my word. I can't believe it won an oscar. I couldn't connect with any character. Nor could I sympathise with any of them. The highlight was the scene with the cereal choices in the supermarket-but that could just be from a PD point of view and the end credits obviouslyStigAnder
Good, not great. Oscar-y films get Oscars.justanotherfrog
I just finished this one. Despite the hype and all, I really enjoyed it! I'm not disappointed by it's best picture win, although personally my favorite was Up in the Air. I don't know if it was the masterpiece some people were making it out to be, but it was definitely a good, suspenseful film with some great performances.diegoivan
Overrated. The oscar for best picture should have been for Inglourious Basterds or Precious.
Thief
I liked it, but I just wasn't blown by it (no pun intended).Troublenight
It is interesting but I think some scenes could've been deletedBin M. Khulayf
its released in US was in 2009, but the official premiere was in Venice Film Festival in 2008.i hope it will get the Oscar not Avatar, or best director at least

Uhh, this "poster" needs fixing.Siskoid
I respect its documentary style - sometimes forgetting that they weren't really filming in Baghdad - but then the action movie tropes (the maverick hero) seemed to work against the style. Then again, the events are based on the scriptwriter's observations while embedded with a bomb squad in 2004 (and his bits are the most interesting thing about the commentary track), so it may be a case of life imitating art. Certainly, while there is an "arc" to follow, there isn't really a plot. It made me think of Platoon (without Oliver Stone, which is a good thing) in its portrait of the Iraq OccupationBigAwesomeBLT
Felt very real and authentic. Great amount of tension and some beautiful shots. Quite slow in places but I think it needed that to push the tension.Showing items 31 – 45 of 60
