Keira Knightley shines in an otherwise disappointing film. For such an interesting story this film's script is heavy handed and handles the material in a clumsy fashion.

This was a great movie. I was kind of scared, since the director is norwegian (I am too), and mostly all norwegian movies suck. But this was a great movie. A lot of it is thanks to an INCREDIBLE story which almost seems made up just for the screen. So heart wrenching and touching, it's hard to leave the theatre having not cried.

Cumberbatch killed it, just as always. I would argue that this is his best performance, actually. Kiera Knightly were all right. I usually do not like her, but she was all right in this movie. And incredible attractive in 40s clothing. God. Other than that it really wasn't anything that stood out either in a good or bad way. Just a decent movie which is saved by an incredible story and Cumberbatch performance.

Intricate and skilful crossword puzzle of themes – heroism, sacrifice, duty, choices, belonging, loneliness, friendship... a little anemic, but nevertheless a piece of enjoyable and thoughtworthy entertainment. Not in the book, though.

2014 was one of the best years for movies, especially in biography movies.

This man that existed, he saved a lot of lives and I´m glad that there are people making this movies to show the world the story of Alan Turing.

To play this important man you have Cumberbatch, that its one of the best actors working today, he is brilliant and his performance in this movie is oscar worthy, perfect he captured the problems and the dilemmas so well in a realistic wave that should be praised as fantastic.

I love Keira Knightley she is one of my favourites, she is incredible in a role that is a strong woman role.

One of the most emotional movies of the year.

First off, this is definately among my favorite movies of all time.

About the story: I know there was criticism concerning historical accuracy. I'm really not qualified to judge that as I know too little about the matter - but IMO the most important part of it all is the belated acknowledgement of Alan Turing's achievements and the fact that they will become better known to the general public.

It's a truly interesting and touching story about war, secret efforts to crack Enigma, a bunch of remarkable people and spoiler

I loved the music, the visual style and especially the intertwined way the story was told, switching between three major points in time. The dialog was amazing as well - at times very touching, at times just hilarious or very sweet.

I deeply admire the actors' skills and performances. I loved Charles Dance, Mark Strong and Keira Knightley, but also the actors portraying the other members of Turing's team. The cast was truly remarkable. Alex Lawther was unbelievable as the younger Alan Turing.

But it was really Benedict Cumberbatch who absolutely blew me away, portraying a socially awkward genius, a personality with so many different layers. I sure hope he'll get the Oscar for this one.

1 hour and 54 minutes of film without a single original idea. However, it does feature some decent acting both by Cumberbatch and Alex Lawther (young Turing).

The Imitation Game tells the story of Alan Turing, inventor of the computer, his role in winning the war for the Allies by breaking the German Enigma machine's cypher, and his struggles with Asperger's and being gay in that era. Benedict Cumberbatch somehow avoids being Sherlock, and the script is surprisingly funny, especially in the first act. Unlike The Theory of Everything, another science-related Oscar-baiting movie to come out this month, there was actually quite a lot of maths in it, and it's the better for it. Telling the story in three time frames creates a more complete picture and adds a tragic element. It loses me a little bit at the end, however, getting a bit cheesy when it hammers its point home two times too many, through Kiera Knightley's last scene and the over-obvious "what happened later" cards. Oh, and historical purists/pedants beware, there's a chapter missing from this for simplicity's sake.

Benedict gave an outstanding performance and it certainly held a message that needed to be told, but the entire movie felt jammed up, there was no flow to the direction, and it felt rushed, and there were too many points to be proven throughout it. Definitely a powerful and essential message, but i think it was poorly executed.

Well made and extremely well acted war drama, especially by the young actors, althought the contribution of the Polish are overlooked. Nice WWII drama does feel a bit like a BBC tvmovie, but a very good one.
