For being a technological landmark, this is the blandest movie I've already forgotten.

One of my least favorites pre 1930´s movie. A bad movie in general.

Loved this movie! The half silent/half talkie concept was a little odd but not too distracting. The story line was tense-filled and hit at the heart. How does one follow ones heart yet not turn ones back on ones upbringing, including family, religion and expectations?

This really hit home for me. Everything about it was awesome.

Incredible to see it made in 1927, it feels every bit as good as some modern classics.

Cracking tunes.

I think I'm 85 years too late to appreciate this film. Then again, maybe it was dull in the first place.

This is a very poorly made film. I also think it's responsible for causing the shift to sound before the technology was really ready, certainly most early talkies are quite clumsy, especially compared to the cinematically rich silents. In any case, the hybrid sound/silent thing here was arbitrary and the casual use of black face isn't doing this any favors.

Really interesting 1/2 silent, 1/2 talkie film. More an educational experience than an entertaining movie.

OK, it's Krusty the Klown's story. The more movies I watch, the more Simpsons references I get that I could never be expected to catch in highschool. The plot of every episode is basically just some old movie.

Perhaps it's fascinating as a historical document, but as a movie it's plain awful. The silent/talkie combo is aggravating. The plot is not very interesting. I can understand that people at the time saw this as a gizmo.
