The King's Speech, 2010's best picture, surprised me by moving me less than 15 minutes in. So put me down as being in agreement with the Academy this year. It shares something with the same crop of nominee's The Social Network in being entirely better than the premise would seem to suggest. I mean, a stuttering king's radio address? When I say it like that. But it's also the story of a royal succession, an underdog story, a bromance, a boxing movie (boxing with words), and played by amazing actors against the shadow of the second World War. The King's Speech is touching, funny, interesting, and has a look that psychologically underscores its protagonist's mindset (lots of recursive imagery, for example).

I put off watching this one for some time purely because of the poster design. The orange was too brash and I figured the film would be a largely political, confronting and dry - I could not have been more wrong. It's genuinely poetic, visually stunning and so gentle. I loved it

An earnest and, despite it's rich setting, at times gently understated film.
Colin Firth gives a brilliant and deeply moving performance that shows our protagonist as both an arrogant, imperious member of royalty as well as a dutiful, loving and touchingly self-concious family man trying to deal with his own importance. Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter also manage to shine and do justice a witty and greatly entertaining script. Perhaps not the most historically accurate portrayal of British Interbellum politics, but definitely worth watching.

Great movie, absolutely.
I personally prefer Inception, The Fighter and 127 Hours and The Social Network.
Colin Firth was great, it is dificult to choose the best actor of 2010.
Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter were great.
With great acting and a great director, this is a movie to be remember for a long time.

A royal snore.

I watched this one on three different occasions to make sure I was in the right mood for it, but every time it failed to grab me. I chuckled when he turned tourettes and it was clever in the ending, but in the end this is a movie about super-privileged peoples small problems and so didnt tell me anything worth to care about nor entertain me. Much like "Million Dollar Baby" or "Babel", movies that try to be profound and experimental, but are too stuck up in the shitty formula to actually say anything. Funny thing how drivel get overloaded with acclaim while few people see true visionary work..
