I don't see where the hate comes from. I watched it in 2D.
This is what people hated about "Clash of the Titans" as well... But it is no secret that movies sized up for 3D afterwards always look shitty.

So what else is wrong with this? Bad actors? Well, they are mediocre, but what did you expect?

I do know the original material. I think it to be absolutely fine to use your poetic license.
You don't blame Hitchcock for "raping" stuff either; also he changed a lot of stuff from the original material. Some did not even have a similar story line.

Shayamalan made this story the way he always makes films. They may not be mass-compatible but they have their own style.

His movies reflect spiritual topics, as well as the modern narrative and the technology used. He often plays with the conventions of the fantasy genre and creates an atmosphere you would always recognize.

This movie has its weaknesses. Personally I thought it to be too short and the character development was kind of dull, but that does not make this movie terrible.

The hate for Shayamalan seems to be very popular these times and I do understand his movies are not for everyones taste, but why do people continue watching his films if they hate them so much? Doesn't make sense to me.

If you hated Lady in the Water or The Happening, you will hate this. Surprise!

It's a bit of a disappointment. The characters aren't really portrayed well: Aang isn't the happy go lucky kid we got to know, Zuko isn't as fiercy enraged etc, the special effects are a bit off too
Nonetheless, it was fun to see this amazing legend come to life on screen.
