My experience with the franchise behind the movie was absolutely nonexistent so thankfully there was nothing for Shyamalan to ruin. That being said, you don't even have to be a fan of the tv series to know how much the content was butchered. Shyamalan is literally insane here. Worthless dialog, atrocious acting, and scenes that are so poorly put together it looks like a high school video project... scratch that, elementary school project. No man has succeeded in pissing off a fanbase more than M. Night with this one.

""The Last Airbender" is an agonizing experience in every category I can think of and others still waiting to be invented. The laws of chance suggest that *something* should have gone right. Not here."
- Roger Ebert

The Last Airbender isn't the lowest rated movie on imdb, but it DOES have the worst dislike ratio of any feature length movie on icheckmovies.

The movie disappointed me a bit. I would not go so far as to dislike it because the story is sweet and I LOVE the effects concerning the bending of the elements... but I did not like the way the story was told. Not really for adults, not really for children... I liked some scenes and some of the actors, but not all of them. All in all, this story could have been turned into a better movie than this one.

I'd like to say that it's the worst movie ever made, but the truth is that it's not even a movie. It's not. It's a live action recap of the first season of incredible tv series. This "film" has no scenes, it only has talentless cosplayers dressed as characters from the show explaining what happened or will happen or how the world of the story works. Was there a single line in the "movie" that wasn't there just to explain something? This "film" is nothing but endless exposition.
My favorite "scene" (and by "favorite" I mean "I laughed the hardest") was when Zuko asked a random kid to come closer and explain a bit of the plot to the audience, after explaining the kid just left - what was the point of that "scene"? Exposition of course.
I guess that's what you get for trying to fit 20+ episodes of a tv show into one movie. But if that's the case why is this "movie" only 100 minutes long? Lord of the Rings have a lot of exposition too, but it has hours of human moments to make up for it. Not that I wanted this garbage to last for 3 and a half hours, but it could have been better if there were at least some character development.
I could talk forever about the acting, the choise for casting, the effects, the pacing etc., but that would be too much like reviewing a movie, and as I said it is NOT a movie, far from it.
But of course the saddest part of the existence of this "movie" is that the show (which by the way is brilliant) gets a bad reputation now. I've heard multiple times people bad mouthing both the "film" and the show without even seeing the show and assuming that "if it has the same story and names of the characters so it must be just as bad". That's sad... On the bright side the only reason I watched the show was to prepare myself for this movie. I'm glad I did, cause all three seasons were golden.

It's a bit of a disappointment. The characters aren't really portrayed well: Aang isn't the happy go lucky kid we got to know, Zuko isn't as fiercy enraged etc, the special effects are a bit off too
Nonetheless, it was fun to see this amazing legend come to life on screen.

One scene that really impressed me was one of the battles that Shamalyan cleverly moved his camera eye in a 360 degree POV. It is a shame that so much energy and thought invested in that shot couldn't have been used in the whole of the movie.

Like most fans of the original series, I was immensely disappointed by this movie adaptation. I admire that Shayamalan tried to fit so much of the original story into the movie, but in the end it was just too much. If I had been in his shoes I would have rolled up my sleeves and cut every scene that was not absolutely necessary to the main plot.

Really suffers from trying to shove roughly 7-8 hours of story (roughly the length of all 20 episodes of the first season) into about an hour and 40 minutes. It's obvious that Shyamalan really tried to incorporate as much from the original series as he could into this movie, but it's simply bursting at the seams with an overload of information that's mostly delivered in clunky exposition. It's a shame when a filmmaker who actually did his homework simply can't recapture the magic of the original source material within his own adaptation. Disappointing is probably an understatement.

Quite poorly directed indeed, but I liked the visuals and it wasn't quite as bad as I feared. Then again I haven't watched the animated series. To be perfectly honest, the adorable Appa was the best thing in this.

In the series there was so much Asian influence. D: The movie was so terribly horrible, there was so much potential with an Avatar movie and they just wasted it! M. Night Shymalan strikes again! This movie gave everyone who didn't watch the series a bad impression.

That's the whitest Katara I've ever seen in my life. Also, I hate that stupid little boy as Aang; they took a rich and funny character and left him empty.
