A short story by Stephen King, which the film has nothing to do with (so even derived is a little too kind of a word). The author sued New Line Cinema a while later.

well, Stephen King's short story is like, 1 page long. And while I agree that its essence has nothing to do with the movie, half of it is pretty much inside the movie, scene by scene, line by line.

I did not understand when I popped in the LaserDisc, that the two disc copy I thrifted was indeed the extended director's cut, which clocks in at nearly 2.5 hours. Only noting the time when I flipped the first disc, I realized I did not set aside enough time for this journey. I popped in the New Line Cinema DVD (which I had also thrifted) and watched the last hour at 1.5x speed. Honestly, I feel this is the superior method to watch The Lawnmower Man.

Really old cyberpunk movie and one of the earlier films to use 3D/CGI. Apparently derived from a novel by Stephen King.
