Ann Harding had a lot of bad publicity for playing this role. The morality of the day dictated that anyone who both had an affair with a married man AND had a child out of wedlock was immoral and ostracized. Anyone condoning this behavior was similarly ostracized. By making this movie the people involved were showing a different side of the morality question and provided sympathy to the woman. This was not something anyone wanted to face. Great movie. Not on par with STELLA DALLAS but similar story. 8 years 10 months ago
