One of the best films of all time, no doubt about it in my mind. Beautiful cinematography, exciting action, likeable characters, a heavenly score and a perfect cast. The second best of the trilogy, after Return of the King, but all three of the LOTR films are my favourites of all time.

Watched again for the fifth time at least having just listened to the audio book. Jackson and Walsh did a great job with the script

All set-up with not that much resolution, the first part of the trilogy is nonetheless visually stunning and a more than worthy adaptation of Tolkien's work.

I have avoided watching these movies for 15 years as I really wanted to wait until the hype went down. The fantasy genre, especially medieval set, is not my bag. I am probably the only person in my social circle that does not watch Game of Thrones (I've watched a few eps, not my jazz). I pretty much tuned out of the story early on and simply enjoyed the flawless direction and art design. However, I'd rather go for a hike than spend three hours watching people walk through gorgeous landscapes. It is an achievement, but one that matters very little to me.

I thought it was OK, properly executed, but not really great. Something is missing, but what? Art? Magic?

Hate me if you must but I just don't get the excitement of this movie or the entire series. Yes, the visuals are marvelous but it's nothing but a bunch of guys running from each other, fighting with each other and talking in gibberish. Yeah, yeah, I get it...loyalty and sworn alliegience to a cause along with brotherly love and all that. But half the time I didn't know who was for or against who and what they were fighting for. Call me stupid or dense if you want but I just don't get it.

When taking my first plunge into the trilogy, I expected the first to be my least favourite and the final act to be the contrary. Much to my surprise, the first ended up being my favourite and the final film being my least.
To put it simply - Fellowship of the Ring is awesome! Deemed by many as a must-watch for any film lover and a general masterpiece of cinema, it takes the Tolkien lore and follows every mite of it to a magnificently detailed degree (which shows in the movies runtime). I don't know what falls into the category of "masterpiece" these days for I'm not well-rounded in cinema, however if I had to put my money on it, i'd say Fellowship, and the trilogy itself, comes pretty close as it draws in all forms of fans and movie goers, whether you're an art-house Latte sipper or a veteran who thinks the golden age of cinema died long ago, it's hard to deny the excellence that is The Lord of the Rings.
If you haven't found the time to watch any of the films so far, then clear a day, find a comfy position, buy some snacks and watch the films back to back in all their glory.
