Even bearing in mind the studio cuts, i couldn't really see the semblances of a film "better than Citizen Kane", as Welles supposedly claimed Ambersons could've been. Also the version that survives is very dark and the picture aspect is rather cluttered and awkward. I watched the DVD so I assume this is the best surviving copy, which really is a shame.

Ok I guess, ain't no Citizen Kane. Tim Holt and the cinematography were aces, though. Having said that, it's cut so heavily who knows what the original product would've been.

Oh my gosh....oh MY gosh. Will you GET UP?

I don't know about it being as good or better than Citizen Kane but what does it matter, it's a great film. Welles is an absolute expert at storytelling, he manages to tap into something timeless in his films and it shows here.

(Hats off to Tim Holt too! I loved his performance)
