Halfway through the movie it felt that there were many endings and it would be a perfect place to stop and leave it at that. But after the third or forth fade out this style started to get boring pretty quickly and the story didn't have that zest, that stake of a main protagonist losing in some way.

Somehow I didn't see this one until this very moment. Luckily, I got to see it on the big screen which really does justice to the beautiful images. The Coen Brothers still succeed in surprising me- this one being far more serious than most of them, with the almost complete absence of the typical Coen humor- made me left speechless for a while. Touching (once again) on the book of job and exploring the emptiness of the protagonist worked excellent with the choice of shooting in black and white.I can understand why some will not enjoy this one as it's a bit different from most of the other ones (even 'A Serious Man' was a bit more comical).
The Coen Brothers have already explored many genres and styles (yet, always with a clear touch of their own)- this one was still quite different from the others and I absolutely loved it.

Admirable for its film noir feel and atypical story, but this is one instance where creating a dull character makes the movie dull itself. Takes a particular mindset.ghost of utopia
cinematography is perfect. but don't expect a perfect storyline. i lost and got bored after some point.ClassicLady
Slower than molasses to get to the point. But a great point once it's made. I like this one better than some of the other Cohen brothers movies I've seen. However I must be missing something because I still don't see the big fuss over the Cohen brothers movies.Bylom
Genre-wise it should also be listed as a film-noir, or neo-noir, imo. Great pic of the Coen brothers.alexbergmans
Roger Deakins, you magnificent bastardNeville
Nabokov. YES! The same moral intensity and dark humor.Did everyone get the critique / examination of post-modernity? Fabulous. My literary cinematic heroes, the Coens are.

This is one of the brothers' drier works, a good choice for those who enjoy whole wheat toast.iCheckFilms
Coen Brothers don't stop surprising me. No matter what genre they foray into, they seem to be (so-totally) in control with the content. The ease with which they deal with their subjects is something that any filmmaker would love to imbibe. Take a bow, masters - yet again!!theod
