Brilliant movie. Of course, the Armenian Genocide is an extremely controversial subject in Turkey. The Turkish government has denied that there was ever an Armenian Genocide. Their argument is that the Armenian population was beng escorted from A to B and that many killings happened along the way. However, they claim that it was not systematic but rather an outcome of war where rape, pillaging and death happen.

There seems to be evidence disproving this with many letters showing how the demise of the Armenian population was well known in advance. It truly is something historians have a great time exploring as there are many sources which add to the overall argument that there was a genocide

The film itself was spectacular. Themes of love, friendship, hardships and compassion were beautifully explored. I loved Oscar Isaacs performance and I got used to their accents although it was a little frustrating at first.

    The Armenian music was beautiful

This film seeks to depict the tragedy of the Genocide, while also unifying Armenians and Turks, Greeks and Kurds, Assyrians and Arabs -- all peoples of Anatolia, to show how even in the face of the cruelest actions of mankind, there were still glimmers of humanity. There were many examples of kind Turks who risked their lives to protect their Armenian brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends

I guess this was made a year ago and only now getting distribution in the US? The timing could not have been better.
Well, I attended a Chicago screening, and it's a very fine movie, comparisons to Dr. Zhivago are apt. Ignore some of the cliches of the honorable and earnest if imperfect American reporter (played here by Christian Bale channeling Josh Brolin), the rescue of cute orphans, the medical man who can't carry a gun...and you will be entertained.
