Quite impressive how well the movie segues from a sexual drama into a courtroom thriller almost seamlessly. Fairly bold acting from Winslet considering her celebrity.
The movie is great, but it's not the one that Kate Winslet should have won the Oscar for.. She should have won for "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" or been nominated for "Revolutionary Road" instead of the The Reader and won for that..
This is the kind of movie I can really sink my teeth into, and yet I couldn't...sink my teeth into it. I'm not mentally astute enough to assess what it's missing for me, just that it is indeed missing much of something.
And yes, as another commenter said, there's really no excuse for Germans not speaking German to each other. I know this is pretty standard in Hollywood, but it's just completely unacceptable to me.
