Well shot and acted. It's nothing you haven't seen before story-wise, though. And I just can't get into horse dramas in general. I would be very interested to see what Zhou does next.
Edit: Which is apparently a Marvel movie? I was absolutely NOT expecting that.
Fantastic movie. I love this director and these actors- who are living out their lives in a mix of fiction/documentary. Everything feels natural. Real emotion is shown in the most refreshing way. Watching this movie, I couldn't help thinking about how much I cared about people of my life past and present. If you get the DVD- watch the Q and A in the special features to bring it all together
A powerful Neo-Western that proves the medium doesn't need to be all shootouts, anti-heroes, and vigilante justice porn. Casting non-actors in the film was perfect. As a director, Chloé Zhao has a great style. I look forward to her next work, and I'll definitely be watching the rest of her pre-'The Rider' filmography.
I was not prepared for how good this film would be. Instead of writing a long and terribly worded treatise on why it's so good please, just go see this movie.
