Was this the inspiration for the Black Mirror episode, White Bear?

It's also a shameless remake of "Le prix du danger" :

In The Running Man, Arnold Schwarzenegger is basically his screen persona as satirized in Last Action Hero. He has no real personality. He's just super-proficient at killing enemies, abnormally strong, always with the quips, and he says "I'll be back" at least once. In other words, sit back, relax, it's just dumb 80s action fun about game shows gone wrong as being used as the opium of the masses by a fascist America (so they got SOME things right). All jokes aside, the movie's idea of 2019 is oppressively 80s, back when we thought hair had to be big, and TV was the ultimate mind control. Even getting through this thing's opening credits is crazy, with the likes of Mick Fleetwood, Dweezil Zappa and Richard Dawson among the cast (plus a lot of wrestlers). Hey, maybe Arnie doesn't want to be shown up by better actors. (Sorry Arnie, you still have to act opposite Jim Brown.) Hey, it's not some kind of masterpiece, but it's pretty fun violent schlock (extra points for a killer hockey sequence).

One of the major antagonists in the film is an obese electricity-wielding opera singer who is dressed like a Lite Brite. Also at one point Jesse Ventura is dressed just like Ron Burgundy (was that the inspiration for Anchorman's costumer, I wonder?)

Arnie is famous for bad one-liners but this is the worst. Any social commentary is undermined by the worst puns (in the loosest possible meaning) ever.

Keep your eyes peeled for Lin Shaye.

Bad, but in many ways everything you want from an 80's Arnie film; camp, ridiculous & violent Action/SciFi fun. 5/10.

A fun and surprisingly insightful/scary look at a fictional future state where the most popular program on state-controlled TV is a game show that pits enemies of the state against professional "stalkers". With the deck stacked against the "contestant", most will die. Schwarzenegger is suddenly thrust into the game and it is a race against oppression and impending death.

Despite its heavy 80s influence and one-liners, this is a fun, intelligent look at commercialization and television. One of Arnold's better sci-fi films that doesn't end in "erminator".

If Trancers, Galaxy Quest, and Stargate can be on the top 100 Sci-fi list, why can't The Running Man?!
