This is one of Hepburn-Tracy movies. In the book Kate remembered (a personal biography by Scott Berg) she says they overlooked the fact that the script wasn't very good but that they really believed in it. Maybe it was because at that time Tracy was drinking heavily and they were happy they had a project together.The movie is also not what Kazan had in mind. Also in Kate remembered Hepburn says he was overruled and there wasn't "gritty realism he had hoped to bring." He gave the studio "exactly what it wanted and nothing more."

Stellar cast and performances, but truly bad movie. If Elia had had his way it would have been much more! But no. Back lots and stock photos. Ugh.
