An amazingly acted movie and is really a poster child for dramas that take their time to build towards a very rewarding payoff. Tim Robbins shines as a quiet yet seriously intelligent inmate and Morgan Freeman... well what is there to say about him, he's a fantastic addition to practically any movie he shows up in and is a wonderful addition here. Hands down one of the best prison drama films out there.

This movie has the number one spot because NO ONE dislikes it. While I like it, it is the definition of inoffensive. Even The Godfather puts SOME people off. This movie is very difficult to fault, but I would be curious to see how many people actual think it's the best film ever made, vs. The Godfather or the like.

Truly amazing film, just saw it for the first time and loved it. Everyone gives a fantastic performance which results in a film full of characters you care about and connect with emotionally. The warden may be one of the greatest villains in cinema history. The ending is great, ties everything together, finishes all the storylines, it is a truly happy ending.

I went into this movie not expecting a whole lot.. and I was greatly dissapointed. The movie was, in my perspective, amazing. First of all, Morgan Freeman. Second, the storyline was gorgeous and everything just tied together so beautifully at the end. It didn't leave me wanting more but it left me in this kind of perfect limbo where I didn't want to know what happened next, but I was happy with that. Great acting, great storytelling, and an overall good movie.
