Still holds up after all these years. Great fun, acting, story, direction and production design.

A delightful work. The plot quietly ties together to produce a feeling of true audience satisfaction by the end.

What a film...ever wanted to get revenge on someone without them knowing? Imagine having a group of people eager to help you do it - all of them professional con artists. I hope to be watching this till I'm very old.

The Sting is the prototypical con movie, a genre I've always loved, but because it was first, watching it today (decades after I'd seen it on TV) gives me a deep feeling of dejà vu. That's because other con stories have taken so much from The Sting. Hell, there's an entire episode of Hustle that's pretty much exactly this, only slightly updated to the 21st century. It's still a tightly constructed puzzle movie, with excellent performances (reuniting Redford and Newman with Butch Cassidy director George Roy Hill, can't go wrong there), one of the most memorable scores in film history, and starting the long tradition of con movies conning the audience. With hindsight, it's lost a little of its, uhm, sting, but that could be said of any mystery/puzzle. Familiarity and expectation dull its surprises, but not its sense of fun.

A great, entertaining movie from beginning to end. It has strong acting, fun characters and a great plot. The music is also great and at times the movie is really suspenseful.

Joker of Gotham

One of the best comedy movies of the imdb list and my favorite movie of That list, after back to the future, I like the movies of the Ocean's Eleven but this movie is better, both are different but have the same objective, that is make a big hit, and surprise the audience how the scam is done, both hits were made according to the decade in which the story was, and both show the ability to surprise the viewer of the film. Newman is excellent, and Redford is not far behind, Really great movie
4.5/5

It uses every ounce of star power and screenplay to excellent effect and with Newman and Redford the movie is in solid hands from start to finish. The chemistry between them is palpable and it all works out to be a prime piece of cinema.

One of the best of the New Hollywood era, but not the single best of 1973. In my opinion, that honor goes to Paper Moon. But The Sting is surely one of the best con films of all time.
