Weird and beautiful. We are all very small in the scheme of things. Loved the dinosaurs.

This may be one of the most beautiful films, if not the most beautiful, that I have ever seen. Every shot is gorgeous, including the often maligned beginning of the universe sequence. In all honesty, I could watch the universe creation sequence for an hour or more. The depiction of life and conflict on the universal scale wrapping into a man's childhood casts a reminder of the vastness of space, yet places an equal importance on something as small as a man's early years. I am hard pressed to find an American film that has affected me in the manner of this film.

I have to say, I thought this was quite a moving film. I'm not sure about some of the moralisms in the movie - I think they are a bit idealistic, but it made me think about some aspects of my own childhood, so for me I found it a worthwhile watch.

I actually find the story of the father that, like God, makes mistakes, fascinating and wished the movie would have just focused on that, instead of adding visual pretentiousness, not to mention that insignificant ending. And I mean insignificant as "it did not bring closure to the story". It is by all of means very well shot and directed, but I'm not sure I will ever watch it again.

I might not be a film snob. To me it's just a thought-provoking philosophy wrapped in a beautiful cinematography. Other than that I sense anxiety. None of this will stuck in my head as other great films had. I must say it's a great film, but i didn't enjoy watching it. At all.

In true Malick fashion, theres just too much damned whispering of overly contemplative introspection. After a while it just becomes laughable that all these characters, regardless of age, continue to wax on in their inner voices with the same semi-coherent nature vs. grace jargon.

Besides that, this movie definitely showcases some exquisite visuals. Just some really great camera work and the creation sequence is full of breathtaking imagery. The heavy mixing of sounds from nature and a classical / holy church style soundtrack really compliment those visuals nicely.

Yes, it looked pretty, but whereas for instance the also pretty Stalker's 3 hours flew by, this movie seemed to last for ever and ever.

First hour was some of the most gorgeous visuals I've ever seen. Then Malick overlabours his point. I understand what he was trying to do, and directly experienced his visual sense is bar none, but just like in The New World, he doesn't marry it to a deeper narrative. Deeply frustrating, as this could have been the modern 2001, as it stands, this is a film I HIGHLY respect but can't totally recommend. 3/5
