I'm not sure Mallick has accomplished the mission of making a movie about the impact of losing a brother and a son. But, IF he failed, it is just because it must be so hard that it seems impossible to me.

Despite the eventual success or failure: The Tree of Life is an amazing movie.

I'm glad I went to see this to the cinema, because I probably wouldn't sit trough it on a computer screen. It was way too long, but I still loved every minute. Mallick worked on the script for over 30 years or so and it deserves to be called his masterpiece.
The actors were also amazing.
Only one thing freaked me out - dinosaurs?!:D

I think this movie can't be taken as good or bad cause the author is not trying to please anyone and easily talk about a determined subject. He chose a language - basically music and image - to treat the questions that mattered to him and he wanted to expose. For me, the movie talks about God, evolution, life in many ways, greatness, smallness, parental love, and many other things, which are the aspects that have touched me the most, that I had some identification with. And because of that I thought it was dense, even with almost no dialogue. I don't see it as pretencious movie, but as a simple, delicate, extremely beautiful and touching work of art.

Half of the movie is National Geographic materials which is beautiful.

Life according to Terrence Malick, shot in a beautiful way. I'll give it that. But I'd rather read a newspaper. Which is what I did, instead of watching the last half of it. Pretentious is what I would call it, meaning that it doesn't have the same substance to me as to Malick. Which would be perfectly OK if this film was culturally irrelevant. Unfortunately, it isn't.

I'll copy the last comment. Boring and pretentious... just what I came to say.

Not at all what I was expecting. From the trailer I expected a very deep story with a plot revolving around the classic father & son duo.
This is VERY slow moving and has VERY little plot. With only small clips worth watching.

A lot of people may like this but just don't expect what I did. :)

The same way this film doesn't need words to tell a gorgeous story, I don't need (nor have) words to describe it.

It is just an special film, a story as slow as life and as sentimental as the world.

It's such an innovating Film, but since it has such a Bizarre Film Structure, It does get boring at parts.

Film étrange, des images magnifiques mais elles ne suffisent pas a tenir le spectateur sur toute la longueur du film.

Well this film is absolutely beautiful and the way it was shot was perfect for the content however it was confusing at times (mostly the ending) and that might make me an idiot but it doesn't ruin the film for me. Some things may have felt like they were not needed but the message was loud and clear and very beautiful. Not my favorite from this year but I did like it.
