I'm also one of the haters. I feel the same as I did with 2001: A Space Odyssey. This movie is like looking at a vague modern art painting for two and a half hours, while you're trying to find out what the painting is supposed to resemble. I almost fell asleep while watching this. Definitely not my kind of movie.JustinBieber
It's sci-fi because it mentions the Big Bang theory...anyway, I HATED this movie! It was extremely long, didn't make sense, not much dialog and Brad Pitt wasn't even cute. Don't waste your money on this.

The longer I spend as an atheist, the more I find myself unable to empathize with religious sentiments. This includes the ones expressed in this film.Visually sumptuous, but quite tedious.

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.252
I watched this not long after its release. At the time, if I remember correctly, I didn't quite like the film. It may have had something to do with having been stoned and tired. It's not a film to watch in such a state, with its slow pace. In my high, I also couldn't quite grasp the message it wanted to project. My mind was running all over the place.Yesterday, I was on a date with a stunning woman. Having told her that I didn't quite like the movie, she felt, based on what she knew about me already, that I would like The Tree of Life if I gave it another shot in a more sober state (sober, if you ignore the butterflies).
She was right. I liked it. She also summed it up beautifully:
The Tree of life shows you a stark contrast between the seeming insignificance of human lives -- in relation to the vastness of the cosmic world -- and the experiences and emotions in those human lives that sometimes appear or feel cosmic in scale.

Although I don't know if I "got" it, I found Tree of Life to be visually stunning and not slow or boring at all.hjkl
The Tree of Life is composed of some of the most beautiful photography you'll ever see in a movie, combined with emotive music and spoken philosophic messages. However stuffing in unrelated nature scenes with voiceover feels more like an attempt of mind control, than a movie. Photography is very important for a movie of course, if it's there to enhance the plot. Where's the plot?Marovan
The ending was just painful for me. I cannot stand the style at all.nadasj
the cinematography is breathtaking , beautiful script though it's not much .. it took some serious thinking till I realized what is it about , deep philosophy .. into the meaning of one's being and a detailed aspect on life .. do I recommend it , absolutely no..Nuked
@aniforprez: There is absolutely nothing pretentious about my meaningless comment, and I am beginning to think you do not know the meaning of that word.It is okay for you to disagree with me. In fact I wasn't standing up for this movie, I was standing up for your right to not like this movie. But you didn't express your dislikeness in a very mature manner (recommending it only to pretentious film buffs, etc.) and of course I felt I had to respond to that as well.
I called that guy a "fucking idiot" because he expressed his opinion in a way that spoke volumes about his lack of knowledge of movies. I believe he was in fact pretentious. Perhaps calling him a "fucking idiot" speaks volumes about me as well. But I thoroughly regret the comment, and if it had happened today, I would have expressed myself in a much more constructive manner, much like I did with you.
I never rejected your personal experience, in fact, as I mentioned earlier, I very much give you all the right to have that personal experience, whether I disagree with you or not. You should read my previous reply to you, and read it with an open mind. I think you will find that you completely misunderstood my intentions.

Either, something this contemporary should never go mainstream, or it just f***ed up being contemporary ^ ^juanittomx
Btful cinematography... but all the way boring and all the cycle of life has been done. more the two long hours..george4mon
i thought pitts performance was better in this than moneyball the film it's self was well shot but boringkayjay027
When you watch a film and it makes you mull over it for hours on end trying to decipher its beauty, and still cannot find an exact answer, you know the movie influenced you. Hunter McCrackren was phenomenal and so were all the others. Unfortunately, I would have skipped the fifteen minute nature video but then again it wouldn't have been as visually sound.Showing items 31 – 45 of 109
