A prime example of a very average musical. Nothing really works well and the numbers themselves leave you seriously wanting. The glaring exception is O'Connor dancing with statues outside of Marilyn's apartment, truly the best sequence in the film, yet considering O'connor's talent it seemed like they were holding back. In the end even Marilyn fans who are working their way through her catalog of movies might have trouble getting through this one.

This is definitely Ethel Merman's movie. Donald O'Connor and Mitzi Gaynor are terrific, but Dan Dailey seems to be just going through the motions. I don't think they put much work into the syncing.

A painfully stiff musical, with multiple leads all acting in their own small bubbles, without regard to any kind of group chemistry. The story consists of a light family drama and romance, which have almost nothing to do with any of the musical numbers that spring up every few minutes. The whole production lacks enthusiasm, and feels more like busywork than anything. There is nothing notable here, aside from Marilyn Monroe's presence.
