Three Little Bops is a Warner Brothers short that I remember all too well. It's completely infectious even after years of not seeing it and it's a really funny spin on the Three Little Pigs fairy tale. I guess there are a whole lot of Warner Bros. shorts I'd say are in my all-time favourites, but I know for a fact that TLB is up there. Honestly!

    Synopsis

The three little pigs are in a groovy jazz band playing for an adoring crowd. Everyone loves them and there isn't anyone who loves them more than the Big Bad Wolf. He loves them so much that during a performance, he insists on joining them. The problem is, he has zero talent and comes close to ruining everything. The pigs throw him out of the club which infuriates Big Bad Wolf. Guess what he does next with a club made of straw.

    Review

Shorty Rogers has put together an unbelievably catchy score and Stan Freberg compliments it all with a great performance doing all of the voice acting work. It's in fact the first time that someone besides Mel Blanc got sole credit for the voice acting in a Looney Tunes short. Freberg is perfectly in time with Shorty Rogers' music and it's just a delight for the ears.

Whoever thought up the idea of turning the pigs into a jazz band is pure crazy. But also a genius. The animators of Three Little Bops have their funny bone in the right place and they too are wonderfully in sync with Shorty Rogers' score. It's amazing that there is only one sound effect in this short, that of Big Bad Wolf's drum deflating. I could swear that there was more.

I was really young the last time I saw this and Three Little Bops still ended up being hilarious to me. Maybe the reasons why are different but everything works perfectly here. It's a good foot-tapping way to spend seven minutes and it's a great example of all the production elements in a film fitting together. I don't think the music in Three Little Bops is getting out of my head any time soon.
