Has one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen. Takes awhile to set it up, and it's definitely worth waiting for it. Enjoyed being a theater full of people laughing hilariously!
My one-line review to a friend after seeing this was: 'At one point I laughed so hard, I was afraid I was going to wee myself.' A top review, if ever there were one. Hilarious and very weird film. Treat yourself and see it.
That was, well, a very interesting experience. This film has it all. These things include: Dentures, wigs, a fart, petit four bukkake, a Whitney Houston tribute, a Bulgerian kukeri, an X-rated birthday party, and family tension. It made me feel like I was stoned, and I don't even smoke. It was entertaining, to say the least...
Took me a while to get to this. It's quite slow and takes a pretty while but it definitely touched me. After it ended I got an overwhelming urge to visit my mother. I think we can all see bits of ourselves in Ines and Winfried
This film surprised me in so many ways. The plot, the characters, the essence of the film. I haven't watched a film like this before. At first, I really didn't know how to feel about Toni Erdmann and I think that is the point. The idea that you don't really fully understand a person and that's okay. People love differently, they see the world as something else. Rather than fighting with that idea, you just accept it. The craziness and all.
Somewhat heartening, certainly not funny. If that's German humor, then please, leave it to Flula Borg and then any other country. This is a perfectly fine movie, well acted, well written and directed, but a good editor would've helped. Its super high regard is strange to me, but then again, Jean whatever is the best film ever according to the newest sights & sounds, and I think that's a pretentious boring nightmare of an art piece, so what do I know? Overall, 2 bags of popcorn.
The emotions in this movie were consistently ... off. And offputting. I honestly registered this more like a horror movie than a comedy (like, c'mon ... hiding in her closet!). That dad be creepy as fuck.
It's like they removed the laugh track on a zany 80s sitcom. All of a sudden the "Bosom Buddies" seem less like two Wild And Kar-razy Guys and more like a couple of strange sex offenders.

A real highlight of 2016 for me so far. While being on the long side, the movie managed to surprise me repeatedly. Always when you think a cliché is coming along, think again, it is something completely different than what you expected. I think it definitely pays out that the director took the time to let us know the characters in detail before coming to the finale. Absolutely worth a watch.TheodorIDontKnow
This is a movie about cheese graters and petit fours with a special icing.eakosif

Looks like it's getting a remake already, with Jack Nicholson as Mr Erdmann himself.coreymaim
