I liked Bresson's film more than Le trou, although they both are great prison escape movies. The thing I like about this film is that the feeling of dread is made very tangible and that the thriller-like plot is interwoven with various existentialist themes.

I prefer "Le trou (1960)".

If the adoption of this cliche-ridden story had been done in a more interesting way; maybe I would had considered it decent. Bresson should have worked more with the dramaturgy and removed most of the voice over that narrates exactly everything that you see in the image which is totally unnecessary and it becomes tiresome from the beginning. The wooden performances and the fact that you know its conclusion makes it worse. All this is due to bad directing by Bresson.

Filmed in a sober fashion, Bresson doesn't waste a single shot. I still preferred 'Le Trou' to this one though, which I think had beter tension and character development. Also, I do prefer a moderate amount of aesthetics wonen it comes to cinematography and editing. This was very basic indeed. Still worth it though!

Cool movie. I might have liked it more in my own language, though.

This film is a masterclass in how to take a simple plot and keep the viewers attention and interest all the way through building the tension right to the final seconds.

No hollywood film would ever dare to be this straight forward!

I wouldn't say I loved it, but it was definitely a thrilling ride.

It reminded me slightly of The Wages of Fear, the ending is nail biting to the extreme.

The lead is very charismatic and looks great on camera and you can't help but want him to succeed. The question is does he? Haha.
