Up the Sandbox, the 1972 hit starring the gorgeous and talented Barbara Streisand is a jarring and upsetting picture about a woman who lives a happy life with her professor husband and two children, with the third one on the way. In a time when the feminist movement was taking place in the US and digging its way through Hollywood productions, comes Up The Sandbox trying to shatter all the work and effort done by feminists in the US to change the preposterous mentalities of the populace at the time. Up The Sandbox disguises its intentions in a way that it tries to trick the audience into thinking that what Streisand’s character strives for in the film is what women’s liberation is all about, when in reality, Barbara’s shown goals in the film are a trial on the behalf of filmmakers to try and oppress women.
