This should have been R rated. As it is, it's just kinda boring.

Well, the film has Tom Hardy freaking out and sweating like a pig half of its runtime, which is pretty fucking cool in my book. On the one hand, a rather formulaic comic film, on the other, wackier than anything from the MCU. I like.

Venommmmm Venommmmmm... So yeah, Venom. Can he work without the Spider-Man baggage? I think they found a way, giving the symbiotes a space invaders objective and Eddie Brock a more crusading spirit - still a loser, because he doesn't know when to leave well enough alone, but no grudge against Peter Parker or whatever. Mostly played as horror, though the more gory moments are actually off-screen, it's a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde story, and the relationship between Brock and Venom is the highlight of the film. You have to wonder where the symbiote gets its personality (from Eddie himself? I wish it were addressed more), but their inner/outer monologue is rather fun. The one big flaw is the underwritten turn for the character, when he goes from malignant monster to anti-hero, but Eddie and Venom are the only fleshed out characters in a crowd of underwritten characters (played by a lot of actors I feel interested in however). The initial action makes Eddie a kind of Plastic Man, if he were made of black rubber, with lots of fun action gags, and that doesn't really go away when he goes full Venom. So yeah, a lot more fun than I thought it would be - big dumb fun - and though I can't hack Carnage in the comics, I'd still be down for a Venom/Carnage throw-down in a sequel. I'm as surprised as you are.

The story isn't worth telling, but the whole film is so much fun.

Tom Hardy and Venom's love/hate relationship is pretty entertaining and I really liked that. But the story was just a mess and the common mispronunciation of symbiote was making me pull my hair out.

The Running time it is misleading, instead of 1h 52 min, it is roughly 1h 32 min.
Because i dont know anything about the source material, im more of a dc guy when it comes to actually reading comics and tv shows both animated and live action, i dont know if the main characther was done right, to me Hardy wasnt the best choice to play this type of characther the E. Brock part, but putting that aside, the movie was ok, I was probably expecting the movie to be better, it does not reach its full potential, but it was ok I guess.
I dont think the movie it is 28% kind of bad, maybe in the 50's%.

Also I'm glad the Jenny Slate it is in this, at least she is getting more exposure, and I love her.

What's up with the soundtrack? Another pop rock song and it almost turns up to be another Suicide Squad. Despite what everyone says, Tom Hardy's acting sucks so bad here; you can almost hear the director screaming at him "take that piece of rotten meat from the trash can and pretend you eat... now run to bathroom and pretend you puke". And what chemistry between Eddie and Venom is everyone talking about? They have zero chemistry. It's so forced, that at one point, suddenly Venom decides to love Eddie and the entire human race for no reason.

It could easily be better, but I don't know why this gets panned in particular. There's no way it is objectively worse than Thor, Wonder Woman and the Black Panther, and it's way more entertaining than them and has some humor that actually hits the mark.

This movie has some serious identity problems. The first half of the film is a long-winded origin story with some PG horror elements. Lots of love for Tom Hardy's performance, but everthing else feels wasted. But then the Venom character kicks in and they open up a great can of fun!

I mean, I understand what people are saying and everything, but if they made a hundred of these, I would watch every single one. Twice.

Well they defo ruined the character of Venom with this tame and generally nice version of Venom. It's like the producers never even read the comics. Doesn't help this has a PG rating, far too vanilla for my liking.

There's also not much of a storyline. Pretty average overall. Hardy being an amazing actor is really the only thing saving this from being a bad movie.
